With four unique licensed venues, from inside the grand State Rooms of the castle to the natural outdoor areas, Powderham is the ultimate wedding location. The castle and grounds were built for entertaining, so whether you’re looking for a simple ceremony, and rambunctious reception, or a whole weekend getaway, we have an abundance of venues to excite and amaze your guests.
The Music Room
The Music Room, also known as The Secret Ballroom, due to the secret door from The Libraries, was added to the house by the 9th Earl of Devon for his own spectacular parties and performances. It is our largest State Room and can accommodate 120 guests for a ceremony or dinner.
The State Dining Room
This ‘modern extension’ was created in the Victorian era and has majestic linenfold oak panelling and a gilded family tree surrounding the room. It is perfect for ceremonies of up to 80, or a banquet for 60, and can host a band, DJ or harpist on the minstrels gallery above.
The Libraries
With Stunning large windows overlooking the Deer Park and Rose Terrace, this is the perfect space for a bright reception. Surrounded by the enthralling family book collection, you can say your vows with up to 70 guests or comfortably sit 90 for dinner.
The Rose Terrace
The Victorian Rose Garden makes the castle your backdrop, with breathtaking views across the Deer Park to the estuary beyond. The terrace is ideal for a sunny ceremony or a beautiful champagne reception, nestled amongst traditional roses, chosen for their enchanting scents.
The Staircase Hall
The Powderham Blue Staircase Hall is a true masterpiece, evoking a sense of awe and admiration from all who have the privilege of standing within its magnificent walls.
The Belvedere Tower
An iconic landmark standing above the Exe is the 18th Century Powderham Belvedere, originally a ballroom and banqueting house. As it’s name suggests, The Belvedere provides jaw-dropping views over the estate and estuary. The restored roof and structural work allows entry again after over 60 years of an uncertain future. The tower is now open for the most unique of ceremonies and the Belvedere Garden can host a modest marquee for a reception of up to 90 guests.
The American Garden
A wooded glade of exotic trees brought over from early voyages to America surrounds a hidden garden pavilion. As if taken directly from the pages of a fairytale, it is the most idyllic setting for a ceremony or drinks reception for a truly natural wedding venue.
The Barn
The Barn at Powderham has had many purposes, from tennis court, wartime newspaper printing press and most recently a Riding School. It is now a show-stopping space available for weddings. The rustic charm of this great open space makes it perfect for couples looking for a relaxed, barn wedding. The adjacent garden is perfect for outdoor seating and lawn games, and is just a few steps away from the peaceful area beside the lake.
The Deer Park
A vast expanse of rolling green fields, wooded areas, and meandering waterways, this idyllic haven is home to a graceful herd of majestic deer. The Park’s lush landscape offers the perfect backdrop for an intimate stroll or a refreshing moment of solitude.
Marquees
The beauty of marquee weddings lies in their flexibility, as they can be set up in any of our outdoor locations including the Deer Park, the Belvedere Tower, or even the Castle’s gardens.
